Driving test
A driving test (also known as a driving exam, driver’s test, or road test) is a procedure designed to test a person’s ability to drive a motor vehicle. It exists in various forms worldwide, and is a requirement to pass in order to obtain a driver’s license. A driving test generally consists of one or two parts: the practical test, called a road test, used to assess a person’s driving ability under normal operating conditions, and/or a written or oral test (theory test) to confirm a person’s knowledge of driving and relevant rules and laws.

The United Kingdom and some other countries use a Hazard Perception Test as part of the theory test, in which candidates are shown multiple short video clips of driving scenarios and must respond to any emerging hazards.

Computer Generated Hazard Perception Clip

This is a new early working example of a computer-generated hazard perception clip. It’s been produced by Jelly – the company who won the contract to update the hazard perception clips. It shows what candidates can expect to see in the test.

The updated clips will be part of the theory test from summer 2013.

How To Pass The Driving Theory Test

The video is excellent to watch whether you’re just thinking about starting revising for the theory test or you have your theory test booked.

It really helps to be well prepared as this will help keep the nerves at bay on the day. Please please take note of the advice on taking both parts of your photo card driving licence with you as the receptionist will NOT let you take the theory test and you will forfeit the test fee too!

When going through the multiple choice part I highly recommend using the flagging tool on any questions you’re unsure of and then go back over them at the end. Take your time too, you get plenty of time to answer all the questions, most even say they had enough time to go back through all the questions again!

A lot of people worry about how many times to click on the hazard perception test because you are told you should find one hazard in each clip then 2 in another. There is sometimes more than one hazard in each clip so I recommend that you should be clicking 3 to 4 times on each video as you won’t know which specific hazard they want you to click on. Look to the background of the video imagine you are driving you would be looking well ahead to spot hazards as early as possible.

One more bit of advice, leave yourself more than enough time to get to the test centre, you never know how bad traffic could be or you might get lost!
